What’s Right for You – Mamamim

I had a bit of a break with the feature last week due to it being National Breastfeeding week but am back with the What’s Right for You series and this week it is the turn of Mim from Mamamim. Over to you!

A Bit About the Blog and The Family

I started writing mamamim.com in 2013 although after a long pause, have been writing consistently since August 2014 when I found out I was pregnant with baby #2.  I wanted a place to record my weekly pregnancy diary, write and share my thoughts on all things parenting and pregnancy.
I’m married to Mr M and we have a 2 year old daughter and newborn baby son.  Mr M is Australian, we met in China!  We lived together in Sydney for 7 years before moving back to the UK in 2014.  We’re all dual British and Australian citizens so can come and go between the two countries, which is just lovely!

The Questions
Did you drink any alcohol before and during your pregnancy?
Before my pregnancies I drank ALL of the alcohol – I love a glass of wine.  I also love a vodka.  Or a beer.  Not picky, to be honest.  During pregnancy I didn’t drink any alcohol.  I’m not really a ‘one glass’ kind of girl so I didn’t see the point.
Did you find out the gender of your baby?
We were tempted to because I thought I could probably plan better if we knew but we decided against it.  It’s one of life’s most wonderful surprises and I just loved being handed the baby and finding out ourselves what gender it was!  I was 100% convinced that my second baby was another girl and I’d managed to convince everyone at the birth centre too – we were all a bit surprised when a little boy popped out.
Did you have a 4D scan?
I did not – they look like aliens on those snaps.
Did you exercise during pregnancy?
I zumba’d during the first trimester of my first pregnancy but had to stop due to SJD/PGP and had that pelvic pain in my second pregnancy too so my exercise was limited to walking.  In hindsight, I wish I’d gotten fitter before my pregnancies.
During labour – pain relief?
Gas and air and the best pain relief known to pregnant-woman – hypnobirthing!
Out through the twinkle (please insert your own word here) or the sun-roof?
The twinkle both times!  I had natural, midwife-led births both times.
Breast or bottle feeding?
Breast both times although really struggled with supply the first time around so also supplemented with formula from fairly early on.  I breastfed for 7 months and 1 day with Miss M and aiming to do around the same with Mini M.  Including the bonus day J  So far, at nearly 3 months with my second baby, breastfeeding is going brilliantly well.
Co-sleeping or solo sleeping?
Co-sleeping although not bed-sharing.  We had a lovely co-sleeper/rocker that lies right next to my bed.  I love having the baby close by and it’s especially easier for breastfeeding.
Did you use a sling?
Oh yes, from the very first week – a lovely, lightweight mesh Breeze Baby sling.  I love having my babies on me, being able to carry them everywhere and keep them happy.  In fact both babies insist upon me carrying them in the sling as if they’re not feeding or sleeping, they’re crying!  Slings are a wonderful way to keep them happy and feeling snug and secure whilst letting me get the annoying household chores done at the same time.
When did your baby move to their own room?
We moved Miss M at 4-5 months as she’d been sleeping through for a while but was a bit of a noisy sleeper and keeping me awake!  We’ll aim to do the same with Mini – let’s hope he cracks the 12 hour sleeps soon and stays on track ha ha.
Dummy or no dummy?
No dummy – I’ve tried with both and failed, despite them being comfort suckers.  I appreciated Miss M not having the dummy to get rid of in the long term but it would have probably kept her happy in the newborn stage if she hadn’t insisted on spitting it out.  I gave up quickly.
Baby-led weaning or the purees?
Baby-led weaning as it was so much fun and the best, practical choice for her and our family.  We loved all sitting at the table and eating together, despite the mess!  She developed her pincer grip super quickly and as she could feed herself, it freed me up to feed MYSELF – perfect!  I think it’s also helped the fact that she now isn’t fussy about any food – she eats everything and especially loves fruit and vegetables.  I really hope that lasts.
Pink and blue or gender neutral?
A bit of both but overall pink and blue – I have no major opinions on either option, I’ll be led by my kids when they’re old enough to choose.  Within reason of course!
Are you a SAHM or back to work?
Back to work after 6 months with Miss M and will do the same this time around (I’m currently on mat leave).  I LOVE to work.  I love to learn (and earn!) although I’d much prefer to work for myself one day.
Have you lost the Mum-tum?
I have but unfortunately the Mim-tum remains J J
When did you first leave your baby overnight if at all?
I’ve only left Miss M for one night to stay with a friend when she had just turned 2 – I called and texted my husband multiple times while I was away to check she was ok although it was only 1 night!  Haven’t left Mini yet and no plans to yet.

I'm always in awe of people who have the self restraint not to find out the baby's gender, I can't even resist peeping at Christmas presents so no way I could resist knowing 😉 thanks for linking up to #Picknmix lovely x Stevie x
