AD – It’s the time of year isn’t it? Valentine’s Day! Do you celebrate it? We do and I also quite like to feel the love between not only me and my hubby but family and friends. AO devised a lovely challenge this year and paired me up with another fellow blogger, Lucy from Real Mum Reviews. The challenge was to pick each other a product from AO, which we would receive in time for Valentine’s Day for us to review. I was surprised with the Shark DuoClean NV801UKT Bagless Vacuum Cleaner.

I never loved vacuums more until I had children. The mess that they create is actually legendary. Crumbs, cereal, sweetcorn(!) and general filth. I have to get the vacuum out most days and I need one that I can rely on and do the job! I was definitely keen to try this one out.

I liked the sound of bagless and that it works on hard floors. The Duo Clean Technology from the Shark NV801UKT is really clever as uses two rollers that work together, so they pick up fine dust as well as larger debris. There is Lift-Away technology that lets you remove the cylinder from the floorhead for easy access around furniture. This will be fab for vacuuming the stairs, as I usually end up dragging the whole thing up the stairs with me. It weighs 6.5kg and has a 8m cord. There is an upholstery tool and a dusting brush. It currently retails at £349.
What Did We Think?
The Shark NV801UKT vacuum was really straightforward to unpack. It was boxed and wrapped so you could take each part out ready to assemble. There are clear instructions about what should in included and how to put the product together. Typically I barely read the instructions but could manage to put together the vacuum with no problems. It clicked together really easily.
I then had a good look at what the product can offer. I really like how you can change the suction of the vacuum, as we have a couple of rugs that if the suction is too hard, it just pulls it off the ground and gets stuck! Being able to change this will help.
There is also a button to change from carpet to hard floor which I really like. We have a wooden entrance area and lino in the kitchen but we also have carpets everywhere too.
The buttons are so self explanatory, which sounds a bit daft but is so useful. You know which is on! You know which button to release the wand, if you want to add an attachment and also how to lift the suction chamber away, to give you more flexibility using the vacuum. There is also a button to access the brush roll, for maintenance and cleaning of the product.
I then tested out the vacuum. Turning it on is easy and you are ready to go. I was amazed at how the product almost glided over the carpet. I changed the suction button and you can feel the difference as you vacuum. The head manoeuvres around corners and furniture and there is a light on it, so if you go into corners, you can see where you are going, avoiding whacking the furniture.
I quickly vacuumed our landing and was AMAZED at how much dust and fibre was in the suction chamber. It was almost full and made me think, how dusty are all our carpets? I then lifted the chamber away, using the button and had a go carrying it and hoovering. This is useful if you hoovering the stairs or under furniture and need that flexibility. It is a little weighty when carrying but not unmanageable at all. You also used an different attachment to the wand for a extended reach. My husband was a bit concerned we may have to empty the chamber a lot, as it is small but I wondered after regular vacuuming but you constantly bring as much dust up? We need to test this over time
There are various attachments which can be attached to the wand or handle. Included with this vacuum is:
- A pet power brush. This is designed to remove pet hair and ground in dirt from the stairs and upholstery. This is perfect for getting all the cereal and crumbs off the sofa when the girls have had their snacks.
- An upholstery tool. This again removes pet hair and dust from curtains and delicate fabrics.
- 2 in 1 Duster Crevice Tool. This is two cleaning tools in one and gives extended cleaning reach and the soft brush works on lots of surfaces.
Shark really have thought of a lot! I went back and had a read of the instructions (as you do afterwards) and noticed there is a cord clip on the side of the wand to hold the cord in place when hoovering.
A couple of days later I hoovered my lounge and hard dining area. The transition from carpet to hard floor was easy with the flick of a switch. I could even clean my rug, which usually gets sucked up, by changing the suction. Brilliant.
I can also add there are clear instructions for the maintenance of the product, so you can look after the filters and brushes.
Overall Thoughts on the Shark NV801UKT
I am really impressed with this vacuum. I feel Shark have thought of a lot. For me the changes in suction and easy glide of the vacuum when cleaning are brilliant. The cord is long and I can do a large area. I also love how the cylinder comes away so you can reach difficult places and do the stairs. It is very self-explanatory and the product itself is clearly labelled, even if you lost the instructions!
Con-wise, I’m not sure if the bag-less cylinder is a little small and may need emptying frequently. Some may find the cylinder a little heavy to carry around but this was not an issue for me.
Clean-wise it took up so much dust first time around which makes me think my previous hoover may not have been doing such a good job. I’m looking forward to using it when having a big Spring clean soon!

My sister asked me which vacuum cleaner I would suggest for her (she also has children) – inexpensive but good and I said that Shark vacuum is always a great choice. Some models have HEPA filter which is really important for those who have different allergies as it kind of cleans the air of fine particles and allergens that would be released back into the air otherwise. Some models come with cords but you can also find cordless models.
Yes, NV801 has a button to change from carpet to hard floor, but there are also some other models that have this cool feature.
