What are your Blogging Perks?

It’s not often a barfy post comes out of the mouth of me but sometimes you need one and today it’s about blogging.

I remember starting blogging in January with not the foggiest of what I was getting myself into. Writing posts, reading posts, going self hosted, scheduling blasted tweets…the job list goes on.

I’d heard of people getting products to review, trips away and some real perks to being a blogger (obviously with a lot of hard work from in return!) When a few of these sorts of things started to trickle in, it was fab!

I was lucky as already had 2 personal friends I knew already that blogged. Helen at All the Beautiful Things, who is my linky co-host and Caroline at Becoming a Stay at Home Mum. These 2 have been invaluable, helping me out at the start and giving lots of advice. Helen has received a good few PR emails from me asking them to be vetted first! What has been an added bonus is I feel I have got to them both; Caroline in particular, better through blogging and this has been awesome. I don’t think I miss a day without a Whatsapp from Helen.

Starting the Best and Worst linky has been brilliant too as we have such a lovely, supportive group that link up each week; a real community. I love all the posts, comments and tweets. Β It was described by a linker recently as giving them a “fuzzy feeling”. This was music to my ears! That is what blogging is really about; a community and it is such nice world to be in. It is brilliant to write something you feel crappy about and get so much support when you feel you need it most. I’m quite lucky I have not had anything negative come my way so far and that makes it even better.

And then there are the people I have met who are more than just fellow bloggers and have actually become real friends. Friends, in some cases I don’t go a day without speaking to and feel like I have known forever! Something I never expected to gain from a simple hobby as blogging.

And when you get presents from fellow bloggers this is even more amazing. Check out this fabulous pic of my family from one of my blogging besties the Mama. Β  These people are your real blogging perks and are the main reason I want to carry on.

What about you? Why do you blog?

I’m not going to lie I love the freebies! I’ve got a massive aqua beads kit to review this week and my girlies are so excited! I love the friendships too though and the feeling of co wrong with a random person who you wouldn’t otherwise have met is amazing.

I also use my blog as a way to process my thoughts and occasionally tell my husband how I feel!

What a lovely post! I can’t believe you only started blogging in January. Your blog is professional and you have a linky too! I started blogging in April but haven’t really had the chance to work with PR companies etc – I am not sure how to promote myself and my blog. I only post once a week too as it’s difficult to find the time. I do love it though and everyone is so friendly. I went to college with blogging Queen Honest Mummy and she is such an inspiration. However, I will never be able to do what she has done, she has created a brand and it’s amazing. #sundaystars

Thanks Stacey. What a compliment thanks! It is hard to find the time to be honest…I never thought I would aim for daily posts. How funny you went to college with Honest Mum! I would never get that far either – my blog is mainly a hobby though xx

I’m relatively new to blogging and still finding my feet but the thing I love most is having a platform to be able to share my motherhood experience, the good and bad, with other mums who have gone through similar challenges and possibly help others who may be struggling with PND or motherhood in general.

I would appreciate any advice on how to access a larger readership though!

Blogging is a brilliant community and it’s great how everybody helps each other fantastic post Sarah xx

Friends have recently asked me why I started blogging again after saying goodbye to my old blog two years ago. I found it hard to come up with a good answer. I just needed to write again. Maybe I was tired of being silent after the (sad to admit it) shame of becoming a single mummy. Is it naff to say that the biggest perk is having people get in touch to say they enjoy what reading what I write?? A huge perk has also been connecting with some pretty wonderful people over here in the blogosphere. The camaraderie , on the whole (!) makes it a lovely place to be xx

Sometimes you just need to write and there is no shame in becoming a single mum. Bless you. I don’t think it;s naff to say you like your stuff to be read! I do for sure but connecting with people is so lovely and makes it all worthwhile xx

  12. October 11, 2015 / 7:26 pm

what a lovely post. I’ve only been blogging since June/July and still finding my feet and style and one thing I’ve noticed that is a perk is the support from everyone. There’s like you say such a community. For me blogging allows me to share what’s on my mind and the likes. And I can get honest opinions from outsiders etc.
there just such a sense of love between everyone xx

I’m quite new to blogging and definitely new to working with brands! I initially started blogging as a hobby, as most people do, and then took it more seriously and ultimately when brands approach you, you see it as a way to get small rewards for doing what you love! πŸ™‚

I only really started blogging at the beginning of the year and it was really to take part in the big knowledge share community that I’ve had so much support and learnt so much from myself. We have food intolerances, a child with special need and all the usual parenting trials and tribulations and I love blogging about what we get up to in the hopes that others will gain as much as I gain from other people’s blogs. I also love when people leave me a comment with extra thoughts and ideas that I haven’t thought of.

I haven’t gotten any monetary perks, but when I started blogging I never thought it would be what it really is. I have learned to take better photos, put together my theme, buttons, categories, an editorial calendar, printables. The list is endless. And the friendships and community! Priceless!!!

I never really thought about it, but I agree the best perk is the fellowship. I am in several blogging groups on Facebook and everyone wants to be part of the solution, so willing to help! It’s so unusual to be surrounded with constant positivity but I could get used to it!
