When you’re a mother, you’ll know that time isn’t exactly plentiful! While you love looking after your kids, this doesn’t mean that it isn’t hard work! They’ll drive you around the twist sometimes, so it’s essential to prioritise your self-care. If you fail to look after yourself, you’ll end up burning out and getting run down. The problem is – how do you practice self-care when time is limited? For mums who are looking to find some quick and easy self-care ideas, read on!

Exercise with your kids

Exercise should be on everyone’s self-care to-do list! Getting those endorphins pumping around will make your mind and body feel great in no time at all. The problem is that when you’re a mother, it’s not always possible to get to the gym! One of the best things that you can do is to include your children in your exercise regime. A super-easy way to do this is to buy some yoga mats and do yoga together. You can find plenty of excellent yoga videos on YouTube to get you started. Your kids will just love being involved in your grown-up stuff! Kids are excellent to exercise with as they have bags of energy and stamina to keep going!

Yoga is fantastic for children as well as adults because it allows you to calm the mind as well as improve posture and flexibility. If you’re not too keen on yoga, you could try some simple bodyweight exercises also. From crunches to lunges and burpees, you’ll burn up a sweat in no time! It can be really fun to do these kinds of exercises with music too!

Exercise is proven to help you sleep better so it can help if you struggle to sleep. A bad night’s sleep will affect your performance and work. When you are fatigued, you are more likely to injure yourself in the workplace or by driving. If you do become injured due to an incident that wasn’t your fault, it’s a good idea to call upon the support of an injury lawyer

Plan your meals

Excellent self-care is all about eating foods that will make you feel fantastic! The odd treat now and then is fine, but you’ll mostly want to eat lots of fruits and vegetables. One of the downfalls of many self-care food routines is failing to plan ahead. It’s all too easy to pick up a processed ready- meal when you haven’t planned your meals for the week. You are also more likely to order too many take-outs! Wake up a mere half an hour earlier one morning and write a plan for your meals for the following week. You’d be surprised how much advanced meal planning can contribute to an excellent diet and as a result- a healthy body and mind!

Hire a nanny

Hiring a nanny can be a great act of self-care to get yourself some more me-time! Of course, you’ll want to spend lots of time with your kids, but this doesn’t mean that you can’t have any time for yourself. It’s important for your wellbeing to see your friends or have a date night with your partner! You don’t have to get a full-time nanny, even one evening a week could give you some space for your hobbies or social life.

Quick meditation apps

Meditation is a fantastic practice for those who wish to achieve peace of mind and de-stress. Many people don’t know where to start or feel that they don’t have time- but this doesn’t have to be the case! There are plenty of meditation apps out there which are quick and easy to use. For mums with a busy lifestyle, meditation apps can be the perfect solution. One app you could look into is Insight Timer, this app has lots of mindfulness activities to try. You can pick the activities depending on how much time you have to spare that day. There are different areas of focus; from kindness to reducing stress. Another meditation app that you could try is Headspace. With this app, you’ll find lots of sleep sounds and guided meditations. There are also some meditations aimed at children. When it comes to your mind, it’s important to prioritise positive mental health and clarity of thought. A great app could be a quick and easy solution to self-care for the time-poor mums!

If you want to prioritise your wellbeing, simple things like trying a new hobby or getting out amongst nature can really help.
