One thing I really struggle with is what to snack on during the day, especially after training or going the gym. I’m busy, we don’t always think that well when doing the food shop and I end up grabbing fruit, nuts or scones and they don’t always keep me going for long enough. I’ve talked frankly on the blog with my issues with maintaining and gaining weight and know I need to eat more and snack more. It is just a lot easier said than done sometimes. I’ve heard loads of people talking about energy balls and the internet and Pinterest is full of different recipes to try. I was sent some Revolution flakes to trial and I wondered if I could combine a recipe for energy balls with Revolupin flakes? Energy Balls high Fibre?
I know my eldest loves energy balls, which does generally surprise me as she is quit fussy but I think the combination of oats, peanut butter and chocolate chips helps a little!! I’m glad she will have them though.
What is Revolupin?
I had never heard of Revolupin lupin flakes before but they are one of the world’s richest sources of protein and fibre. Revolupin lupin flakes are little flakes that come from the lupin bean, part of the legume family. Lupin Flakes contain only 4% carbohydrates and are gluten free, GMO free and vegan friendly. They come from Australia.
A 40g serving contains a whopping 14.8g of fibre. We all should be eating more fibre and are recommended to have 30g a day, which a lot of us struggle to hit. This also has 16g of protein, which is 3x more than in eggs.
There are other important nutrients in lupins too, as well as the high fibre and protein content, including zinc and iron. You can find out a little more about lupins here.
You can also find other recipes to try too!
Ingredients – Energy Balls High Fibre with Revolupin
Here is the basic recipe and ingredients for High fibre energy balls. It should make around 12 but this does depend on how big you make your balls!
– 60g of rolled oats
– 30g of Revolupin flakes – lightly toasted
– 55g of dark chocolate chips
– 75g of ground flaxseed
– 180g of peanut butter
– 2 tablespoons of honey
I got my girls involved in making the energy balls with me, which meant complete kitchen chaos but hey ho, I have to let them get involved sometimes eh?
After weighing out all your ingredients, simply mix together in a bowl and stir!
It really is that simple.
You then place your mixture in the fridge for 30 minutes before taking out and rolling into balls, ready to serve as a snack.
My eldest likes doing this and then eating all the bits in the bottom of the ball, that didn’t make the cut!
I do have to be totally frank about lupin flakes however. I have made these energy balls before without lupin flakes and they didn’t bother me too much. What I did find with the lupin flakes was I did need to go to the toilet a lot! The fibre content of them on top of what is in oats and peanut butter obviously had an effect. If you do have a sensitive tummy or something like irritable bowel syndrome, I would be trying with caution and start with small amounts first!
They are very tasty and a little moreish and this is not fantastic when they make you dash to the toilet if you eat too many. I’d advise one per day!!
But there you have it, easy energy balls that are high fibre and hopefully you and your kids will like them too!
