Fun Ways to Burn Off Energy With Kids

Fun Ways to Burn Off Energy With Kids

Disclosure – this is a collaborative post.

We all know that kids are full of energy, and at the moment when the whole nation (and world in general) is cooped up, chances are you’re starting to feel the strain. Kids don’t tend to enjoy being stuck in and sat in one spot, they want to run and jump around and explore the world through play. When this is no longer a possibility, we need to think up new ways to help them burn off energy and get the exercise they need- here are some ideas for going about it.

Dance

Maybe your little one attends a dance school that they’re currently missing, or maybe they just love to jump around to the sound of music! Make the most of this, it could be a dance workout on Youtube that you all follow along to or you could put your favourite songs on and all dance around the house. Make up silly dance moves and try and copy each other, or come up with routines to help build kids memory skills. A bit of crazy dancing will use all of your muscles in your arms, legs and core as well as get you out of breath which is great for your heart and lungs. Just a ten minute boogie every day could tire you all out and be a surprisingly good workout.

Bike ride

Here in the UK the government has stated that we’re allowed to go out once a day to exercise. Going out for a walk with the kids is one option, but getting their bikes out can make it more fun and they’re likely to burn off more energy too. You can still go to parks but play areas are out of bounds for now, so a bike or scooter is a good way to have fun outdoors and can stop you from all going a little stir crazy. Luckily we’ve had some nice sunny weather of late, it’s still quite chilly but with the sun shining and fresh air it can really make you

Make up games

The best kind of exercise and activity is where you’re having so much fun, you dont realise that you’re burning calories! Making up games and allowing kids to run around might feel chaotic but it’s a good way for them to burn off steam. Push the furniture out of the way in the living room, let them out into the garden if it’s a nice day and just make it up as you go. You could play with a ball, a frisbee or a skipping rope. You could make circuits or obstacle courses or play chase. Chances are it’s these little moments of wildness that your kids will remember, and it will give them fond memories of being locked down rather than feelings of anxiety and worry. The best we can do for our kids at this stage is stay calm and make the most of the situation, and hopefully have some fun in the process.

    Great ideas.
My two have been playing in the garden each day. Basketball, on the trampoline and I bought a swingball set which they are loving. All our arms are aching from it. lol
