New Year’s Resolutions? No not for me!

I’m putting it out there. This is going to be short and sweet!

I get frustrated when January 1st hits and all these new year’s resolutions hit my Facebook wall. Detox diets, fitness kicks, no eating, no drinking, etc. I know we all need a break after Christmas but still!

Don’t get me wrong, I’ve got no problem with people setting goals and working towards them, as long as it is sustainable and achievable. My gym gets full up with people going nuts after Christmas and then empties by March as all the good intentions fall by the wayside, until next January.  This drives the regular gym goers crazy with the frantic fitness, full gym classes and zero equipment. Sometimes the goals and plans can just be too much to sustain.

I just don’t bother.

I think if you are getting annoyed with something about your life; your health, the way you think, a negative person you are friends with, anything; make the change now, not on January the 1st. Why wait? The days roll on and on and every day is a new day. Why wait until a new year to make a change? Also why put so much pressure on yourself in January? Christmas is over, you may be skint, it’s cold and dark and it’s a very long month. The pressure of surviving solely on cardio, grapefruit and hot lemon and water is slightly ludicrous. Plus who the heck is going to eat all those Christmas chocolates? Giving up chocolate in January is like giving up Disney when going to Florida.

My advice?

Don’t stress.

If making changes; take your time, don’t put a tonne of pressure on yourself to be perfect. Small steps and little changes that you can maintain. If it doesn’t work at first, go to sleep and try again the next day. It doesn’t have to be January 1st to make a positive change, does it?
