AD – I was extremely excited and honoured to be invited to a VIP night at The Canal House on Bridge Street Birmingham. The James Brindley Pub has been refurbished to bring a taste of history and heritage to the city by the people behind The Botanist.
I have barely been out in the last 18 months, having a 10 month old, so could not wait!
What Can You Expect The Canal House?
As quoted from online:

And specifically:

- An amazing cocktail menu
- An exquisite menu with some delicious options, including hanging kebabs, a deli board and a rotisserie

- An amazing atmosphere and historic decor
Our Experience
I was invited alongside two of my friends to come and sample the delights the Canal House had to offer. We were all really impressed.
We started the evening with a canal boat ride and to the Canal House and sampled some ales along the way.
We were invited inside after stepping off the boat and immediately I was impressed with the atmosphere. Dim lighting, really quirky, cool decor and friendly bar staff.
Cocktails were on the menu to start and there were a wide range of choices, including some smoky varieties. It took me ages to choose! It was fab watching them be made, whilst chatting at the bar. Alcoholic cocktails started at £6.75, virgin choices at £4.50. There has been some real historic thought gone in categorising and naming the drinks.
We were then taken upstairs to a bright and airy room to our table. Live music was playing as we sat down to sample the menu. It was brilliant! I loved the wooden slats, the plants and the lighting. The chandeliers were made from old bottles and glasses; so original and eye catching.
The menu was full of delicious options, with nibbles such as bread and olives, pork cracking and baked kale. Mains included a fab deli board with so many options, very similar to ordering tapas. You could choose 4 for £10.95 and options included houmous, crudites and dip, hand carved honey mustard ham, smoked beans and lamb meatballs, cooked mini chorizo…the list goes on.
We chose some of these.
And we had to try one of the hanging kebabs, either chicken, salmon, pork and halloumi with chips or sweet potato fries. I chose chicken and it was fab: so tasty and tender.
We chose a fabulous cookie dough pudding with ice-cream which I didn’t get the best shot of (it was getting pretty dark) but it was amazing. We washed that down with a good English brew.
Overall Thoughts
We had a brilliant night. It was an awesome place to meet up with friends or perhaps have a date night. There is something for everything; a varied menu which caters for different tastes and appetites. A vast variety of ales and ciders, good wines and fabulous cocktails. The service was really good and they could not do enough for you. Everything was served with a smile!
I would definitely hope to go back and you should try it!
