Christmas Holidays….what would you miss if you went away?

Hubby and I have talked about going away at Christmas lots. It’s one of those things we umm and errr over and usually can never come to a decision.

The thought of a warm, sunny Christmas, less present stress, no cooking, buried in a cluttered house? These are VERY pleasant thoughts. I love putting the decorations up and giving and receiving all the presents but there is just so much mess. Wouldn’t it be nice to leave all this behind?

Or would it be strange? No cold weather. No rain or wind or even snow? Sweating and applying sun cream on Christmas Day? It does seem really bizarre. There is also the realisation that we would be leaving family behind, unless they tagged along too.

Would it even feel like Christmas? These are the debates we have had so many times. So we have yet to do it!!

I feel there will be so many things we will miss. Christmas traditions that we have as a family and as an extended family. You know what I mean; the traditions that are special to you and your family.

Let me tell you what I mean with the help of a fabulous hamper I was sent by Jet2holidays. This was filled with the best stuff including games, biscuits, hot chocolate, kids crafts, crackers, pencils and a Gingerbread House kit (something I have never done before!!).

Games – every year on Christmas Day we get the kids to bed, pour ourselves an alcoholic beverage and get really angry with each other when we play Articulate. The fact that there is a kid’s version now makes me even more excited!

The Food – so I’m not a massive fan of all Christmas traditional food but there are so exceptions. Shortbread biscuits and warm hot chocolate definitely make the cut. Can’t imagine hot drinks for my sunny Christmas! My husband would definitely miss the mince pies.

The Smells – for me Christmas isn’t Christmas without the smell of spices or Cinnamon. I always have a candle burning and it really gets me in the festive spirit!

Present Wrapping – if we went away we feasibly could not take all the presents so we would have to have them afterwards or have no where near as many. It’s a tempting idea but I have to say I’d miss the pressies.

Maybe staying at home for Christmas is best for a few years at least.

So in that case it’s probably best to start thinking about next year’s holidays!! Always good to have something to look forward to and have a sunny plan ahead.

Happy Christmas!

Disclosure – we were sent the hamper in exchange for this post. All thoughts and opinions are our own.
