Grandma’s Poetry Book – REVIEW

Grandma's Poetry Book

AD – I had the pleasure of receiving Grandma’s Poetry Book to review recently. This is completely separate to the sad goings on with my Grandma I may add. It was a nice, nostalgic reminder of her though.

This lovely book is cleverly written by Di Castle and illustrated by Denise A Horn.  It is filled with completely delightful poems cataloguing the journey  from birth onward of Grandchildren in the eyes of their Grandma.

The poems are witty, accurate and some times quite emotive. It starts with life before Grandchildren, the birth and illustrates all the ups and downs and the amazing relationship between Grandparent and Grandchild.

The illustrations match the tone and humour of the poetry and completely bring to life the imagery in your head as you read along.

The above illustration tickled me, where the little one didn’t recognise her Grandma all dressed up when being picked up from nursery. Very witty and really captures the moment (and complete embarrassment!)

I particularly liked the Mother to Mother poem, which provided some very sound advice about making the most of your children; don’t let them grow too quickly as time just flies. Very needed, when you had a long, crazy day and you lost your toddler’s hat in town and she trashed a card shop!

Grandma’s Poetry book would make a fantastic Christmas present for your Mum or partner’s Mum and retails at £6.99 directly from the author. This is a bargain for such a lovely, personal, original gift.

Overall, I thought the book was just a great read. Any poetry lover would be delighted. It’s personal, easy to relate to and funny. It would be a lovely gift.
