Am I Too Old For?

am I too old for

I turned 30 in November last year. I actually didn’t feel too bad (apart from the little cry I had in the morning when I opened my presents). It’s just a number. I feel no different. I’m still me, just another year older. But it did get me thinking. I’m getting older. A few comments here and there as well from friends. Am I getting too old for some things? I’m a Mummy now. This comes with big responsibilities and future embarrassment potential for my gremlin. Do I need to start sorting myself out early on in preparation for her future humiliation and disgusted comments in my sadness?!

Am I Too Old For New Look?

I love New Look. I actually love it. If I think back over the last 12 months I think 90% of my clothes purchases have been from this shop. It’s bang on trend but not too expensive. I walk into TopShop, like a few garments, check the price tag and head straight back New Look for a similar item at a cheaper price!!! So this is my first point. Am I told old to be caring about “fashion”? Should it be all about comfort and individuality? Not choosing the same thing as every other girl and becoming a sheep. But the thing is I do care. I love checking the New Look website for the season trends and planning what I can buy. I always have done and think for the foreseeable future I will do. I still refuse to buy a sensible waterproof coat and yes I do get wet if I’m caught out!!! I just like my coats and jackets. But it brings me to my second thought. One of my closest friends thinks and quite happily verbalises her opinions on my dress sense. I’ve been told a few times I dress like a teenager. I know I do. The only time she let me get away with dungarees was when I was pregnant. I love leggings, skinny jeans, denim shorts, slogan tees and short dresses. I’ve had to seriously stop myself buying crop tops over the last few years (I’m not that bad!). In my head I’m making the most of the time I have and the body I have that’s able to fit into these clothes. Give me a few years and I’m sure my fashion sense will change…well let’s just see.

Radio 1

Did you listen to this song on Radio 2 this morning?” my work colleague asked last week, happily singing the song from the New York Tropicana juice advert.

Thoughts quickly ran through my mind. What?! Really? I thought Radio 2 was for older people. My Mum listens to Radio 2. In fact I thought the older you got the bigger the number after “Radio”. But it made me think about some Radio 1 stats I read a few years ago. It is a station aimed at 16-30 year olds. Hmmm I’ve just turned 30. Not long left. But I find it hilarious. Love a bit of Grimmy on the way to work and Greg James on the way home. And probably worst of all I still love current music. My radio is tuned into Kiss FM in my kitchen (much to hubby’s disgust but yet he likes half the songs!!). Radio 1 is better as it plays some more random stuff not just all the mainstream pop found on Kiss FM. To be fair I haven’t given Radio 2 a listen. I may quite like it. But I’m sure my Mum has only gone off current stuff over the last decade and she’s in her 50s. All through my childhood she was happily singing along to pop. I reckon I have a good few years yet until my gremlin is yelling at me to stop trying to be cool singing the songs she loves. By that point Ed Sheeren will probably be for saddo oldies…..

Long Hair?

“How long are you growing your hair?” I was asked 5 or 6 years ago when out for a work meal. I think I told her I didn’t know. I’ve had long hair for years. She replied, “well as long as you cut it when you’re 30.” I didn’t think anything of it. A few years passed in blissful long-haired ignorance. Then I turned 30!!! I’m always planning on chopping it off and then I wuss out. To be honest Hubby won’t even let me consider chopping my hair. He just loves it long and isn’t a fan of short locks. He looks at pics of my Mum years ago with her boy cut and just snorts and still mocks her relentlessly. I recently went to stay in the States with my cousin. She showed my lots of pics of her new American friends and everyone had hair almost to their waists. Granted they are all 16 but it made me swear I just couldn’t cut mine just yet. I’m sure I can get away with it for a few more years until I start getting the, “long hair ages you, you know” comments. It may be fun competing with my gremlin in the long hair stakes!!

I don’t think I am too old for these things. Do you?
