School Stress

school stress

Since the gremlin has started school I feel like I am the one back in school! There is so much flipping stuff to remember and it’s fairly constant. There is such a thing as school stress for parents.

I feel at the moment I have more things to remember for her than I do for myself, work and the blog all combined and frankly, I feel like my head is going to explode as a school Mum!

Just this week I have had to remember:

– Something for the Christmas hamper x 2
– Lines to learn for the school play
– Books to return and comments about them in a little book, as well as time to read for them.
– A Christmas decoration to make at home.
– Something for kindness week

School Stress!

Has anyone else lost track?!

I know it’s the time of year. It’s Christmas and there is a lot going on. It’s exciting and of course the school want the kids to gets involved. I also understand it is probably very important to try and get the gremlin to start remembering some of her own things but she’s only four and I can barely get her to pick her dirty socks up and put them in the washing basket!

I’m also feeling a tad guilty at present as I haven’t volunteered to help out with anything yet but I genuinely don’t feel I have the bandwidth for my brain to expand any further.

I was warned this was what school was like. ‘Mummy homework’ one of my mates described it as and that’s exactly what it feels like. Hubby doesn’t remember anything at all and I have to be totally on the ball. This means actually reading the newsletter or frantically asking the other girls in the Whatsapp group what’s going on.

It’s such a pressure, as I don’t want to let the gremlin down. We all remember what it’s like as a kid when you are the only one not going on a trip or the only one to have forgotten to bring cakes in for the sale. Whatever. If you don’t have it you are the odd one out!! Also I don’t want to look like the shit mum who forgets everything!! I’m sure the teachers talk just as you would do in any other job!!

I’m trying to get organised and this seems to mean a lot of lists and planning when I’m going to get all of it done. Lists have become my new best friend (as well as my neighbour who tells me about everything!)

When you have kids, those first few weeks and months seem like the hardest times but no trust me!! The challenge just continues, it’s just a different challenge. Your kids may sleep but instead they need you to devise random Christmas decorations, when you are as far from being a Pinterest Mum as my daughter is from loving fruit.

I’m sure I’ll get there so will get my homework done and just wait for the next newsletter and the next thing I have to prepare for.
