Being a mom is the toughest job on the planet, as you hardly get any free time for yourself. But remember, staying fit is essential, so I am here with 7 fitness tips for moms to help them balance parenthood and maintain a workout routine.
Today, I will advise you on planning ahead and using your kid’s naptime to create a fitness routine.
7 Tips to Balance Fitness And Motherhood
These are the tips that will help you to maintain fitness while you embrace motherhood.
1. Set Proper Goals
Before you exercise, set proper goals you are likely to achieve. With kids around, it takes much more time to finish a task than if you were alone.
You can set goals like doing 20 push-ups per day in 4 sessions, where you will do five push-ups per session. Or you can incorporate a new form of exercise into your routine every week. Whatever your goal is, make sure your body can handle it.
2. Plan In Advance
So, if you decide that you want to exercise, then plan so that it saves time and you can spend more time on your fitness session.
For example, on the days I decide to go for a morning jog, I usually take out my running clothes and shoes the night before. I also fill up my water bottle so that I can wake up, get ready, and leave before my kids start screaming.
3. Try HIIT Workouts
If you are a busy mom with a clingy toddler like me, you can try quick workouts like High-Intensity Interval Training (HIIT). This short, intense exercise routine that includes cardio workouts can be completed within 20 minutes. Before starting, consult a fitness trainer to know exactly how to do high-intensity exercises.
HIIT workouts can make you tired. This is why I exercise at night after putting my little ones to bed. So that when I’m drained out of energy, I can hit the bed straight away without having to deal with the children.
4. Online Fitness Videos
If you are stuck at home all day, use online workout videos and training sessions. You can follow these and exercise at home when you get time while keeping an eye on your kids.
5. Meal Preparation
Healthy eating is essential to maintain fitness. You can prepare a meal plan at the beginning of each week and decide on which nutritious ingredients you plan to eat on each day of the week. This will make grocery shopping much easier and quicker.
Since I maintain a healthy diet, I prepare my weekly Sunday meals and reheat them throughout the week. This saves me time as I don’t have the daily hassle of cooking. As a result, I can spend more time balancing the children and my fitness sessions.
6. Utilize Nap Time
If your child takes naps during the day, it’s the perfect time to exercise. As a mom, I know that we have uncountable chores such as laundry, cleaning, etc., which we do when our little ones sleep.
But at least once a week, you could use their nap time to fit in a short 15-minute fitness session. It could be yoga, cardio, or any other workout routine.
7. Fitness Groups
There are mommies who cannot manage to exercise at home with the kids around. That’s why I would recommend them to join mommy fitness groups where the kids can accompany their mothers.
You can exercise and meet other mommies while your little ones are under your supervision.
Final Word
These fitness tips for moms are a perfect way to stay fit while enjoying motherhood. Try to follow one tip at a time to manage easily.
