Sometimes the craziest analogies and comparisons come into my head whilst I am having my morning shower.
I usually have a list as long as my leg of things to do trying to sort them in my head as I shave can be very therapeutic. What blog post am I writing next? What email do I have to reply to? What is little Piglet going to wear today?
Blogging and babies quite often fill my head in alternative thoughts as they are such big parts of my life at the moment. But if you think, the process of getting going with both is remarkably similar.
And not just in the respect that your blog is your baby.
This is why:
You are inspired by others to begin. God everyone on my Facebook timeline is having a baby. My ovaries are twitching; best get a move on. Oooh two of my friends are blogging? Hmm, maybe I’ll try this too.
You haven’t got the foggiest what it really entails. Follow links? DA? What the hell are people on about? I have to actually promote my posts? These blogging aspects are about as unfamiliar as coping with 2 hours sleep and trying to clean baby poo off the sofa with a baby wipe.
You need a camera at all times; phone, DSLR whatever. You need a photo of EVERYTHING for the blog and a photo of EVERY little thing the baby does.
You end up losing sleep. Staying up late to meet a deadline or you just can’t sleep due to the ideas flying through your head. A baby just steals sleep….end of!
They become an addiction. The buzz of blogging; the friends, the perks become all consuming and you want to keep going. Just like your baby. You can’t get enough of the smell of their skin, their gorgeous smiles, even their snotty noses.
People just don’t “get it”. No one realises why you blog really. Are you exposing your kids? Why are you sharing things? Why write? Sound familiar? Similar to people with no kids who can’t understand why you post a million photos of them a day, cancel all plans and laugh in their faces when they say they are tired. Until you have a blog or a baby, it’s never understood fully.
Your relationship suffers. Ooops I’ve been on the laptop blogging all night whilst hubby watches Games of Thrones and we haven’t actually spoken. Any parents will know a baby comes along and romance is lost for at least 5 years…I jest…maybe 2 years.
You seem to get a lot of stuff through the post. Reviews = parcels. Babies = panicking and buying everything using Amazon Prime – from nappies to thermometers.
You are constantly learning! I still haven’t got a clue about half the things I should be doing with my blog. Broken link checker…still on the to do list. Parenting. I actually don’t think you ever stop learning. I couldn’t be arsed to take Piglet for a third nap walk yesterday…lesson learnt. NEVER AGAIN!
You have your tribe. I have met the most amazing people since blogging, some have since stopped but I still class them as really good, even best friends. This tends to also happen when you have a baby; you find your people, via NCT, baby group, whatever. I don’t know how I would survive without my Mum friends some days.
It’s a funny thing to compare, as my blog is about my babies but the similarities are so uncanny. Both are hard work, frustrating, tiring but immensely rewarding and fun.
I wouldn’t change either for anything.
Can you think of anything I have missed?
