I don’t always write up day trips of weekends away on the blog. I often wonder if they get a bit tedious? Holidays yes, as I love to go back and look through all the memories. So I thought hubby and my first weekend away since little Piglet was born, was definitely worth a short write up!
Hubby and I head to the beautiful Crewe Hall, which is about 1hr and 15 minutes from Solihull. We have been twice before, as my oldest school mate got married then and then she and her other friend had a joint 30th birthday there. It is truly beautiful, cosy and just a lovely place to stay over.
We had wanted to do two nights but with a mad rush up the M6 on a Friday night and the gremlin being in school on a Monday, it was too tricky, so we settled with one.
We left the kids with my parents and headed up to see my oldest school mate and her new house. We haven’t seen each other in ages, so was lovely to have a catch up and see her lovely house. We also got fed which is always a bonus! We couldn’t check into Crewe Hall until 3pm, so we headed over for then.
We couldn’t get a spa unfortunately (not organised enough), so we knew we would be chilling in the hotel until dinner which was booked for 7pm. This is my favourite part! Chilling, tea, a bath, Netflix. We relaxed and got ready for food around 6pm.
The food was lovely! We had decided to behave ourselves and actually chat uninterrupted. So I did not take my phone down that night and the camera wasn’t taken out through the meal much either.
I had a smoked salmon to start with and hubby, black pudding. Mains were crispy beef noodles for hubby and sea bass for me. I passed on a pud and had a cuppa (rock and roll), whilst hubster had a lemon cheescake. It was really delicious and nice to eat and chat, without the gremlin in my ear every 5 minutes!
The thing about Crewe Hall is the decor is stunning! It was quiet and it’s so dark and cosy. There are so many places to take photos and look around.
It’s dark so hard to get the best photos but we headed to the bar and got a couple of drinks, deciding we wanting to sit somewhere in the hotel. And you can do just that!! There was a 21st party going on upstairs so we had some pretty good tunes playing. It was amazing to sit and chat, relax and amazingly not spend our entire time chatting about the kids!!
We managed to get to about 11pm before heading back to bed. I was looking forward to a good night’s sleep and no early wake up call. I got the sleep but my lovely body clock got me up for 7am! Still, it’s better than 6am.
We had decided to hit the gym before breakfast and did just that. Hubby was moaning after about 45 minutes as he’s not used to training on a pretty empty tummy (I hate it for that matter too), so we rushed back and went for breakfast. Got to love a cooked breakfast at a hotel eh?
The time had honestly flew and we had to be out of the room by 11am. We had a few jobs we wanted to get done when we got back and knew the monsters would be on their way home.
It was an amazing weekend. We both really felt we had time as a couple and didn’t just feel like Mum and Dad. I had to admit I’d missed the kids though and the gremlin really missed me!
Can’t wait to get a weekend away again though!
