I love to exercise and keep fit. It is something I have been doing since I was at University. Before this I didn’t really know what I was missing. I remember thinking it was time to start looking after myself and I joined the University gym. I never really looked back after that! Now exercise is such a huge part of my life. My popping out for a run or to the gym is normal. My middley has just started doing park run and she also does kick boxing. Exercise is something I want them to do regularly too and see it as a normal part of life.
Being injured or unwell, really hits me hard, usually as it stops me doing the activities I love. It can be hard when you almost have an addiction to the endorphins that come with exercise and being active.
I exercise for many reasons but for me, here are the main ones:
Why Exercise?
– To keep mobile and strong for later life. I want to try to be as fit and mobile for as long as possible. As you get older, losing muscle mass is part of the ageing process and to try and slow this process down, resistance training is important. If you’re looking for a little extra support in your workouts, a bespoke lifting belt might be a game changer for you too! I do high impact activities to help maintain strong bones as I get older. Of course sometimes a disability or issues with mobility can occur and there isn’t anything you can do. Being active still and getting out and about is so important and Age Co Mobility have a Worldwide Attractions Accessibility Guide, to help plan amazing trips.
– For my Mental Health – exercise has always been my therapy when I feel anxious, upset or a little down. This can come and go for me but in darker days, I will always hit the gym or go for a run. The exercise helps, escaping the house and company definitely does, if running with friends or seeing people in the gym.
– For Some Alone Time – for me, being a Mum can be tough. I am pulled in three different directions a lot of the time and exercising is my alone time. I have some headspace; some time to be me. I listen to music, drive alone and just train. It is needed and I usually come back feeling pretty refreshed and ready to go again.
– For My Health – of course I think about my physical health as well as my mental health. I want to keep myself at a healthy weight, look after my heart and lungs and try and reduce the risk of certain illnesses. I know you cannot prevent everything but I keep going and keep trying.
– I enjoy it – people think I am crazy when I get up at 5.30am to run with my friend or when I head to the gym on holiday but I do genuinely enjoy being active. It doesn’t always have to be the gym; it could be a hike in the countryside. It could be scooting or biking with my kids. Anything that gets me moving and usually getting some fresh air, I do really enjoy. I also love coming home and chilling, after and I feel so good! Whether I’m lying on the sofa or in a hammock, it is great to relax after a good workout.
Exercise will be a part of my life for as long as it can be. I love it! It makes me feel good and I feel like it looks after me both physically and mentally.
Do you love to exercise?

I have started exercising more over the last year or so and I will go as far to say I enjoy it now. I didn’t to start with as I would always push myself too much and then ache, now I know my limits and it’s made it easier to exercise. x
Exercising is so important for humans. I experienced insomnia last month so I tried exercising everyday and eating healthy. And I’m surprised that it really helps!
