Dressing my Newborn

We knew little Piglet was going to be a girl. We found out the sex this time. It was so much easier for planning the nursery, clothes and I definitely think I bonded more with her before she was born. Dressing her would be easier.

Before Piglet appeared my Mum washed all the gremlin’s first size clothes (and the rest of the sizes) ready for Piglet’s arrival. I was amazed how small it all was! You genuinely do forget how tiny your babies are at the start, especially when they start to feed and grow! This is the gremlin at 3.5 weeks in a newborn dress.

I’m a tad gutted.

Piglet was quite a big baby. An 8lb 11.5oz baby. This was not expected. I was a day early having her so imagine what size she would have been if I had gone overdue. My Mum did not believe the midwife when she was first weighed! The gremlin was 7lb 3oz and she was 2 days early. When you look at pictures, the gremlin does look skinnier.

So what does this mean for all the lovely “newborn” and “first size” clothes that go up to around 9lb? Yep, Piglet has been wearing them all like a lunatic for the first 2 weeks of her life, as we will be hitting the 0-3 month old gear an awful lot earlier than with the gremlin. She was wearing her first size gear post 4 weeks and I even bought some extra first size bits, as all I had was 0-3 months which buried her.

I do tend to dress the girls mainly in baby grows when they are younger but we also do put them in clothes as well. I’m one of those Mum’s who does like denim (I know some don’t on young ones). I used to dress the gremlin very like me; leggings, tees and cardigans. It was only when she hit 2 and half that she decided she wanted to live in dresses and she hardly wore any of her leggings anymore!!

It’s the best bit buying clothes for your baby. Planning outfits and often matching their style to yours. I tend to shop on the high street and sometimes online stores like Petit Bateau, where there are some truly gorgeous and often more unique styles.

Little Piglet is likely to be in gremlin hand me downs for a little while but a lot of saved clothes have been a tad wrecked by weaning and crawling so she is set to get some new stuff just for her when she is bigger.

I’m dying to see what style she has and what she chooses to wear as she gets older too!

What a big girl! We struggled to find anything to fit Poppy for a long time and she’s now in 3 to 6 months but so chunky- I bought her two pinafore dressed and they looked rifilous on her as just clung to her tummy and we’re loose everywhere else!! #twinklytuesday

I love the early years dressing girls, it ends all too soon as you are finding when they have ideas of their own and it feels unfair not to encourage that. #TwinkleyTuesday

I always gift bigger clothes, I always feel like they’re needed so much sooner than the tag on them states. #TwinklyTuesday

It was the same with our girls – my first baby was quite small so she spent a good few weeks in the the newborn size, but my 2nd was a big baby and went straight into 0-3mth. But she still seemed tiny! You really do forget how small they are #TwinklyTuesday
