Things I WON’T Miss About Parenting

won't miss about parenting

As parents we are bombarded with the message that we should savour every moment of our parenting journey; it’s wonderful; it goes so fast and we need to cherish it. Yes, this is true and yes we should for some of it. Give me cuddles any day, spending time together, chats with my 5 and almost 3 year old and listening to my 5 month old squeal away. These are definitely “cherish every moment” times. But what about things I won’t miss about parenting?

NOT everything in parenting is a barrel of laugh.. Somethings I will gladly see the back of and will not miss at all. And I don’t feel bad about it either.

For me it’s bed sharing. Don’t get me wrong, little Piglet used to snooze with me when she was tiny and it was adorable waking up to her next to me before I moved her back to her Moses basket. BUT kids get older. The gremlin is not a “cuddle in bed” girl. Nor am I, so I can’t blame her. She wants space, she wiggles and her limbs seem to find the most painful parts of me to kick! I never sleep and always end up going to the spare room and leave her with her Daddy. And I’m still co-sleeping with the little man!!

Won’t Miss About Parenting

I decided to ask a group of bloggers for the ultimate list of things they won’t miss about parenting and this is what they said:

“My 6 months fascination with putting his hands in his filled nappy. Not sure those hands will be quite so cute at 18…” Kirsty from Life With Boys.

“Feeding them! I will be glad of the day the girls can make themselves some dinner and eat it unaided! As an emetophobic watching Neve eat, gag and regurgitate makes me feel rough as hell!” Lucy from Real Mum Reviews.

“Cbeebies, especially Mr Tumble!” Lynne from New Mummy Blog.

“Throwing themselves on the floor in the middle of a supermarket because they want Peppa magazines that cost a fortune!” Jenna at Then There Were Three.

“Washing 7 outfits a day. How do little people get through SO many clothes?!” Beth at Twinderelmo.

“Vomiting or cleaning up anything else that comes out of them!” Sarah at Boo, Roo and Tigger Too.

“Getting up in the night! I will be so glad when thry can take themselves to the loo and find their lost bedcovers themselves!” Sarah at Loving Life with Little Ones.

“I won’t miss company in the bath or toilet. I mean, there will come a time we can do it solo again, or am I delusional?” Catherine at Passports and Adventures.

“I really won’t miss having to wipe pooey bottoms. Hearing those words, “I’m finished” from the four year old and hearing the rumbling in a nappy from the baby. Nope, won’t miss that!!” Lisa from Mummascribbles.

“Uncertainty. When they can’t talk and you have no idea what is wrong and they can’t explain it!” Kimberly from Oddhogg.

“I won’t miss the sound of my own voice repeatedly telling them to get their frickin shoes on!” Claire from Life, Love and Dirty Dishes.

“I won’t miss all the midnight crying because of a lost dummy or her duvet isn’t right. I also won’t miss the time it takes to get ready just to pop to the shops ” Christopher from The Opinionated Dad.

“For me it’s the sleepless nights and the 5am wake up calls – I miss sleep!” Nicola from The Frugal Cottage.

“The fight to get him to sleep! Every time he screams and screams, I can’t wait for him to ASK to go to bed… fear I may be waiting a while!” Hayley from Devon Mama.

“The mess! The boys are like a whirlwind some days and minutes after hoovering or sweeping it needs doing again!” Jaymee from The Mum Diaries.

“I won’t miss being handed boggeys after they have had a good nose picking sesh then say here you go mummy like they have a present for you.” Lianne from Ankle Biters Adventures.

“I won’t miss the making sure that everything I give my two children is split exactly evenly so they don’t complain that the other one got more! Seriously I feel like I have to count the Grains of rice sometimes!” Jennifer from My Mummy’s Pennies.

“I won’t miss the temper tantrums for sure… or that I have to bribe my daughter with chocolate to get her to eat perfectly normal food like pasta bolognaise or tuna pasta. The only thing she would eat from her free will is French fries and nuggets!” Irina from Wave to Mummy.

“I won’t miss having to choose a car around car seats and pushchair space 😂 I will be driving around in a tiny little sporty number if I so wish!!” Amy from The Smallest of Things.

“I won’t miss the baby bag! Designer handbags all the way! Woohoo!” Laura from Five Little Doves.

“The irrational tantrums, not listening and general stress!!” Helen from All the Beautiful Things.

“I won’t miss being told that I have a big belly and lots of spots on my face because when they’re grown up I might find time to get to the gym and have a skincare routine!” Jade from Raising the Rings.

“Sharing my dinner. I do like having all my food to myself. Also, being watched on the toilet!” Victoria from Mummy Time Two.

“The hair pulling. “Gently, that’s mummy’s hair,” is like a record stuck on repeat in this house!” Julie from Pondering Parenthood.

“I won’t miss my girls coming up to me every time they ‘bump’ themselves. They’ll see a red mark on their arm (usually pen!) and come running to me that they’re hurt. They’ll trip over, land on their feet, and moan they’re hurt. No you’re not! I’ve resorted to telling them, unless there’s blood or a body part has fallen off, I don’t want to know!” Emily from Twin Mummy and Daddy.

“Watching my every movement – especially when I’m on the loo.” Emma from The Cheshire Wife.

I was glad to read this list as it made me feel way less guilty about all my thoughts!

As ever, parenting is amazing, fun and totally rewarding but other days?

Other days you just want to throw those little ones out of the window!! There are a good few things I won’t miss about parenting.

I love this. It’s so true we have to cherish this time but I absolutely won’t miss being interrupted with every conversation I have x
