The Massage Company – Sutton Coldfield – REVIEW | AD

The Massage Company

As a busy Mum of three children, I rarely get a lot of quality time for myself. Rarely! It’s just hard isn’t it? You focus so much of your time looking after them, school jobs, tidying, washing, working and by the time they are in bed, you want to collapse. I’m lucky that I do manage to get the gym in the mornings and my Mum is around more now, so is able to look after the little man, so I am trying to do a few more things when I can. As he is still breastfeeding, I can’t leave him over night just yet but I can have some time during the day! When I was offered a massage with The Massage Company, I bit their hand off!

I know when I go to the gym, that I do get some aches and pains in my lower back and knees, especially after having knee surgery in the past. The issue is I have a time window to work out and I have to come home. This is not great for fitting a stretching session in, which I know is not good! I’ve been told in the past my shoulders are tight, so I was expecting to need a good massage!

More About The Massage Company

The Massage Company are a franchise, open in Sutton Coldfield, High Wycombe, Camberley and Tunbridge Wells. They know regular massage helps with stress, aid relaxation, raise alertness and assist in recovery from treatment and surgery. However, most people, like me, only have one now and then.

The Massage Company want bring high-quality massage to everyone and want people to see massage as good value for money, so it can become a vital and routine part of a better and balanced quality of life.

Deep Tissues, Sports, Maternity and Classic Swedish massages are offered with upgrades such as hot stones, aromatherapy, scalp massage and a foot treatment.

You can find out more about the prices here, which include general prices and membership options.

The Massage Company offer quite flexible opening times, as are aware we are busy and not all of us can get out during the day. The Sutton Coldfield branch is open until 9pm on some days.

My Massage Company Experience

I arrived for my massage with about 5 minutes to spare (standard me) and was given a very warm welcome by Louise, at the Sutton Coldfield centre. I would advise you to not park in front of the centre but elsewhere, as you are only entitled to an hour and I was longer than this.

After I moved my car and headed back in, I had to fill out a form about my health, what I was wanting from the massage, any focus areas or any areas I did not want massaging for personal reasons. I was offered a cup of water and I waited for  my therapist.

The Massage Company

My therapist was a friendly chap, called James and I knew before attending it would a male therapist. Initially, I had felt a little strange, as I have always had a woman when I had a massage but I got the feeling that my treatment would be more of a deep tissue and more focused, than my usual spa treatment days.

I was right.

I had a little chat about some of the areas I get problems. I mentioned my lower back, shoulders and above my knees. James was also qualified in personal training so had some ideas of why I may be sore and some advice.

I was left to undress privately and to lay on my front ready for the massage. The room was very hot and the mattress or blankets were warm. I asked for these to be off and this was no trouble. I was recovering from a sinus infection and was offered plenty of tissues which was nice too!

My Massage

The Massage Company

My massage was a deep tissue treatment and therefore was slightly painful at times, which I actually like! This was definitely more over my problem areas. I had tight hamstrings and glute muscles. I was asked permission before any glute massage, which I liked.

James always asked if it was too uncomfortable, as for example my IT bands on the sides of my quads were very painful when massaged. I’ve used a foam roller on them before, as part of a stretching routine, so am used to this. He also talked me through my muscles, the problem areas and potentially why they were tight or tense.

My legs, glutes, arms, back, shoulders and neck were covered. There are upgrades, as I discussed above but I did not have on this occasion.

Afterwards my muscles felt great. I really could tell they had been treated. Relaxed, with minimal niggles. Afterwards you are given a sheet with recommendations for when you should return and where your problem areas are.

I had really enjoyed myself, as not really had a proper deep tissue massage before.

Overall Thoughts

The experience was not like a spa, I have to say. No chilling in your dressing gown with a glass of bubbly. You can have the more relaxing Swedish massage and not chat away like we did, it’s up to you. But I feel you may get more out of the deeper massages

The Massage Company came across as more of almost “medical massage”. To help with stress, muscle aches, or to help athletes recover. In Sutton Coldfield there are actually more male therapists than female, so this is different to a spa too. I was advised the male therapists often have more height and strength when comes to the deep tissue massages and really getting to the muscles, which I have to agree with after my experience.

The service was friendly, timely and professional. I was made to feel very welcome and everything was explained to me, from my recommendations to how The Massage Company works.

If I had more time and knew I could afford to go monthly, the membership would be perfect, as price-wise it does work out cheaper, than stand-alone massages I have had in the past. I also like how on the flexible membership, you can share with family and friends.

I think if you are training, stressed, advised to try massage therapy or just want to see what it is all about, I would definitely recommend the Massage Company. It was professional, relaxing and worked!

A deep tissue massage sounds wonderful. It’s nice to get a massage every so often. I used to have them before I had kids. Haven’t thought to do them for a while but you’ve reminded me of how nice they can be.

I actually trained in massage many years ago, and I too have had real trouble finding treatment satisfaction in the beauty arena. Often, I have found that it just isn’t deep enough and does not target specific areas per client’s needs like I used to do with all my treatments back when I was in practise. So I am thrilled to hear that there is a company that is specifically for massage. You have a lot of these in the States, and I also like the fact that it definitely stops any idea of massage being a ‘red light’ pursuit.
